I joined the Garfield Cadets when was 10 years old. It was at the end of the 1958 Season. I marched only in Parades in 1959, and then I made it into the Big Corp, 1960 was my first year to march as a regular. The year we went back to the West Point Style Uniforms. I remember my first year and squad very well. THANK YOU, John Avella and Kenny Shedosky. My BUT still hurts sometimes. In 1961, the first year of the Contra Bass, I was one of the originals. I marched very proudly until I enlisted in the Air Force in 1966. After I was Honorably Discharged. I Marched in my last season 1968, I aged out at 21.
I have a lot of very fond memories as a "GARFIELD CADET". I am very proud to call myself an Alumni, of the finest organization that anyone can be part of.
As Bob Hope always said, "THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES"
I am now Retired and living in Florida. I have 2 Great Children, both are married. I also have 4 Beautiful Grandchildren. They all still live in New Jersey, and very much aware of the Garfield Cadets.
Hi Lou:
Nice to hear from the old crew. I am in Hackettstown and my life revolves around fencing. i was on tour with the US National team so I was unable to make the celebration.

Hi Lou - Yes, it would have been good to see you. Saw a lot of old friends at Giants Stadium. It was good to see the corps perform. Cathy is doing good. I have been involved with drum corps as a judge for over 40 years. I was elected into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame last year at the DCA Championships. Where is Spring Hill, FL. Cathy & I will be in Orlando in Jan.
Hello Lou: Yes, I am intending to be there for the 75th festivities. It will be great to see some old friends and to share some old stories. I thought about playing, but after 45 years, I'm not doing too well at it. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to pass on the playing. Are you planning to participate?
I am always glad to see someone I recognize and marched with. I will be at the 75th as well as my twin brother Brian. I am retired in Colorado and also California. See you there.
WOW it has been many moons since we have seen each other. My life has been so busy since I aged out years ago......Right now I am living in Hackettstown NJ and working for Sanofi Pasteur a pharmacuticle company that produces vaccines for the flu and many other products.......I have been working there for the past 3 years and before that I work for Hoffmann LaRoche for 28 years.......I have three children 29, 24 and 18. My daughter is the oldest and is a school teacher, my 24 year old son is studying to be an airline pilot and my younger son is in his last year of high school. I have one grandchild and he is 2 years old........Also been married to the same great woman for 31 years and still going strong.......As for the 75th celibration for the cadets I won't be making the event in August.....I will be leaving that Friday for Columbus Ohio to visit a close friend and attending the DCI Championship with him. He was in the cadets back in the eighties and one day we met on line at the Drum Corp Planet forum and ever since we have become close friends.....I visit him once a year and spend a week going to many drum corp shows out in that area....It would really be great to see and talk to you again buddy! Hope to see you soon! Frank Galka
