Michael Jones marched as a Garfield Cadet from 1983 to 1988 when I aged out of the activity. I was one of the fortunate members to go on to teach the corps thru 1990 when i finally retired from the activity.
I played tenors for all of those great years. We captured the illustrious World Championship title 4 out of the 6 years that i marched. Finally after many years of training, captured the high drum trophy with a perfect score helping Garfield to capture my final championship with the corps edging out the Santa Clara Vanguard by a tenth of a point overall.
These years in Garfield were the best years of my youth and i echo the same sentiment that most Cadets still do to this day; The things that i learned in the coprs, still permeate my life outside of drum corps in many many ways. I just wish that i can stop having this recurring dream that im strapping on a uniform to assist the corps even though in my dream, i am well over the legal age limit.
How are you? And will you be at finals? Yes I went to med school etc and was in the practice of medicicne for awhile. Now I am on the business side of healthcare. I still drum with bands quite a bit!
wow it's soo good to be back in touch with you guys!!!! especially the likes of you, jerede and scotty clarke, you guys were part of the reason why i so badly wanted to be a cadet, and part of the reason why i am still soooo proud of my association. i remember auditioning in front of you and tom, and having to learn the 'jones shuffle,' still pretty good fun to play. i miss drum corps in the states so much i learnt so much about myself and what i could achieve through being a cadet so for all of your influence i thank you. hope that show was great in westchester, definately one of my favourite regionals.
take care. sending lots of love to you and yours from london england!!!!!!!
Its Marc Sherman from 1985 ( The Texas Snare Guy)-- glad to see you are stll around. '85 was fun for me and you and Clem ( remember him?) added a lot to our drumline clan back then.
You were one of the best guys to be around in 83.... It is great catching up with so many people from that amazing year. Even though I only had that one small summer, I also have that same dream over and over again. It is one of the most vivid dreams that I have.
Hey, that one picture you have of the opening set in 83... Do you have a larger shot? That is an awesome pic with our snare line in the background. I would love to have that one....
Yes - I was stretching my memory ... after the night wore on and after looking at some of the posted photos my memory is coming back. Good to see everyone at the reunion and look forward to seeing everyone again next year (I WILL remember you then for sure :) )
